Marks of a True Christian

One of my personal goals that I have been working on the past few months is to make more time to dig into the Word of God. There are so many times that I have every intention of reading from the Bible, but for whatever reason, I end up going to bed wishing I had read more. Things come up during the day; kids, school, work, chores, the list goes on and on. The truth of the matter is that if you don't MAKE time to sit down and open up God's Word, then chances are, you won't. That 30 min of free time won't just present itself to you, you have to create it on your own. One of the ways that I have done this is to read when I arrive at work. Years ago my wife bought me a firefighters bible which is just small enough to keep in the center console of my truck. When I pull in to work each day, I open it up to a random spot, and then I read until I have to go in. Depending on the day, this could be reading for 20 min, or opening up just long enough to read a single verse before running in the building. I have found that in these small moments, some of the most spiritual verses have presented them to me. I would like to briefely share what I read today. This is from the book of Romans and has been termed "The Marks of a True Christian.

1. Let love be genuine
2. Flee from evil and cling to what is good
3. Love one another with brotherly affection
4. Outdo one another in showing honor
5. Be full of zeal and fervent in spirit; serve the Lord
6. Rejoice in hope
7. Be patient in tribulation
8. Be constant in prayer
9. Help fellow believers
10. Show hospitality
11. Bless those who persecute you
12. Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep
13. Live in harmony with one another
14. Don't be arrogant but associate with the lowly
15. Never be wise in your own sight.
16. Repay no evil for evil but instead do what is honorable
17. Live peaceably with all
18. Leave the avenging up to God
19. Be kind to your enemies
20. Don't be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good

This morning, these verses stood out to me in such a strong way, that I had to share them with all of you. I encourage everyone to take time to read Romans 12: 9-21. This is one of my new favorite scriptures and after sharing it with my wife, we have decided to put it up in our home. This is just one example of the witness God shows me each and every day as I pour over His words and seek to know and understand more. If it is only for a few seconds each day, make it a personal quest to open the Bible each day. You will find that as you do, God will lead you to exactly what you need at that particular moment.
